Step 1-

In order for each group to begin this WebQuests task, its members will be assigned a package number.  After the numbers have been given out, the members of each group are to click on the package link below that has been assigned to them in order to view the letter and artwork contained in their parcel.  Once each group has opened its package, all of its members are to read the letter displayed to discover which famous artists name appears on it.  In addition, the individuals in each group are to spend time looking at the artwork contained in the package.  It is at this time during the WebQuest that each groups members are to print out a copy of what they have discovered at their packages link.  This is so that the members of each group have an opportunity to examine more closely both the letter and artwork contained in their package

Step 3-

At this point in the Quest, it is time for the members of each group to share their research findings with one another.  As a result of doing so, each groups members will be able to pool their information together to build their case.

Step 4-

Now its time for the members of each group to work collaboratively on creating a PowerPoint presentation that will enable them to effectively convince the Met's board of trustees (Your classmates/Mrs. Carnegie) to either accept the mystery artwork into the museum's permanent collection so that it can be put on display with the other masterpieces done by the same artist or not to accept it into the Met's permanent collection because it is not believed that its an authentic artwork done by the artist listed in the letter.  Each groups presentation should meet the following criteria:

·         Created utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint software.

·         Contains a photograph of the famous artist whose name was listed in the letter.

(Save image as a JPEG File- 72 DPI)

·         Three examples of this artist's work should be displayed along with a date that each was created, a description of the medium used to make each work, as well as a size description of the original pieces.  (Save images as JPEG files- 72 DPI)

·         The artist's background information such as where he or she was from, when they lived, etc.,

·         A brief description of the art movement that the artist listed in the letter was a part of.

·         Characteristics of the works done by the famous artist whose name appeared in the letter.  Each group should state as part of their presentation whether or not the mystery artwork sent in the package had similar characteristics.

·         A comparison of any artist special markings/signature style on the mystery artwork to those found on works done by the famous artist listed whose name was divulged in the letter.  (Provide visuals if you can)

·         Any other evidence that would help your group build a strong case.

·         During the presentation, the members of each group must participate equally in presenting the case to the museum's board of trustees.

Step 5-

The last step is for each group to present its case to the Met's board of trustees (Your classmates/Mrs. Carnegie).  While the members of each group are presenting their case, all other individuals in class are to be taking notes.  In order to help the members of each group write down information on the various artists styles that other groups studied during this WebQuest, they are to take notes on the special note taking sheets provided at the link below.  After each group has presented its case to the museums board of trustees, the members of all groups will use their notes to participate in a discussion about it.
